"It will be hillbilly, it will be silly—and it will be mighty entertaining," says Buz Craft, spokesman for the VZCT. “Plus," he added, "We’re going to serve a country-type meal that will make your taste buds dance!"

Craft is talking about the "Hee Haw" type variety show that the theatre group has arranged for October 25 at the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce Hall. The entertainers and the audience will be served a meal, while everyone enjoys the atmosphere of being in the warmth and comfort of an actual old, country café. (Hint: corn, legumes and spud salad figure on the menu).

"Only, in this café," Craft says, "Various and sundry customers are subject to get up to the mike at different times and ‘do their thing’ for everyone’s enjoyment!"

Craft said that about eight groups——of local musicians, comedians and "stars"—-—are now lined up to present the entertainment, and that some of the acts will be inclusive, as in a skit, while in others, performers will drill through the time zones as a glue for the various segments.

“All of this is aimed at providing a good meal and giving a little well deserved comedic relief for our diners," Craft notes, “And hopefully in return, we’ll be getting some giggles--and perhaps even a few guffaws—-as audible feedback,” he said.
Craft said the concept is trial balloon of sorts and that, depending upon interest, more "Café" events might be arranged in the future.

“Our goal is that every entertainer in the county area will visit Countryman’s Café, and join us in this endeavor,” Craft said.

"This is a VZCT project, and the programs are intended to be 'family friendly' but organizations that participate are certainly free to plug their own programs and schedules," he added.

Doors will open for the meal at 6:30 p.m., and the program will start at 7 p.m., Saturday, October 25 at the Chamber Hall, 307 N 4th Street, Wills Point. Admission is $15 for all. Call the Chamber for reservations.
