Nascar Nationwide Series teams wrapped up two days of testing with their version of the "Car of Tomorrow" on Tuesday in Charlotte. Nascar officials have been generally pleased with the progress of the new-generation racecar and drivers turned laps within one second of the ploe speed for last weekend's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway. The car is expected to debut in early 2010. Paul Wolfe, crew chief for Michael Waltrip Racing's Numer-00 team in the Nationwide Series, has been fined five thousand dollars and placed on probation until the end of the year after it was discovered that the carburetor venturis on the car exceeded Nascar specifications during opening-day inspection last week in Charlotte. Driver Josh Wise failed to qualify for the October 10th Dollar General 300. Nineteen-year-old Bryan Clauson, denied a shot at his first Nascar Sprint Cup Series start last weekend in Charlotte when qualifying was rained out, will try again nest week in Atlanta. He'll be entered in a third Chip Ganassi Racing Dodge. IT HAPPENED ON THIS DATE: oCTOBER 15, 2000: Dale Earnhardt won the Winston 500 at Talladega, the seventy-sixth ... and final ... victory of his Cup Series career. Tragically, just four months later, Earnhardt was killed in the season-opening Daytona 500 on Feb. 18, 2001.
