News Update ... Jinnie Johnson needs an average finish of ninth or better in the remaining races to win his third consecutive Nascar Sprint Cup Series championship. In his career, Johnson's average finish on the three remaining tracks is wight-point-nine. He's won at Texas and Phoenix. His best finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway is second in 2004. Carl Edwards will represent the United States in the 2008 Race of Championships Nations Cup next month at Wembley Stadium in London. He'll team up with motocross star Travis Pastrana to compete against other nations in identical cars on a specially designed course. After eight years as team sponsor in the Nascar Nationwide Series, Geico is moving into the Sprint Cup Series with confirmation that Max Papis will drive its Number-13 Toyota in twenty-races - including two of the last three on this year's schedule. Germain Racing will field cars for Papis and also will enter into a partnership with Michale Waltrip Racing for engineering and technical support. IT HAPPENED ON THIS DATE October 29th, 1995: Ricky Rudd won the Dura Lube 500 in Phoenix, snapping a forty-four-race winless streak. It was Rudd's lone victory of the season as he finished ninth in the championship standings. It marked the thirteenth straight year in which Rudd won at least one Cup Series race. |
