With the holidays upon us, families are preparing to budget for gifts, food, and decorations. Most Texas families do not have an unlimited amount of funds to spend and neither does Washington. Unfortunately, big spenders in Washington often overlook this small but critical detail. I have been concerned with the growth of our federal budget for as long as I began paying attention to politics. And every year, Washington gives me even more reasons to increase my level of concern. While families are tightening their belts to pay for gas, groceries, and healthcare, Washington shouldn’t be expanding theirs. The time has come for Washington to not only curb the growth of spending, but also to cut wasteful spending. That is why I introduced the Family Budget Protection Act. This bill would curb the growth and spending of the federal government so that American families are not forced to bear the brunt of Washington’s outrageous spending happens. More than anything, the bill represents our commitment to American families by demonstrating that we are committed to not letting the federal budget grow faster than the family’s ability to pay for it. We have heard a lot of rhetoric lately about “fiscal responsibility.” Now is the time for our nation’s representatives to step up to the plate and put some real substance behind those words. If we control outrageous spending today, we can protect programs for generations to come. |
