The building, built in the 1970s was left a shell of brick and and steel, the windows broken out by the fire. "It was a beautiful sanctuary. And the stain glass windows were gorgeous," said one church member who watched as fire fighters poured water on what remained. The 200-member church gathered in a nearby building also owned by the church. Classes as the church's playschool were put on hold since access to the church complex was restricted by fire investigators

Another church has been destroyed by fire, this time in Wills Point. Smoke was first reported coming from the sanctuary at the Russell United Methodist Church in Wills Point around 5:30 a.m. Fire crews, stationed just two blocks away arrived to find the building fully engulfed in flames.
