Mineola Economic Development Team sponsors Informational Seminar PDF  | Print |  E-mail

If you are a current business owner, would like to expand your business or start a new business, the Mineola Economic Development Team will be conducting an "Informational Seminar" on Tuesday, October 27 at 5 p.m. at Mineola's City Hall.

Presentations are scheduled from Jim Albritton, SCORE counselor; John Mulligan, USDA, Rural Development; Luke Kimbrough, East Texas Regional Development Company; Scott Hampton, AEP/SWEPCO; Don Proudfoot, Small Business Development Center; Rhonda Reynolds, The Center for Research and Development UT Tyler; Laurie O'Neal, State Economic Development Council; and Adam Steck, local entrepreneur.

An open discussion and one-on-one opportunities will follow the presentations.

Subway sandwiches will be served at 5 p.m. with the seminar to begin at 5:30 p.m.  Attendance will be limited, so make your reservations early.  For reservations, call Mineola City Hall at 903-569-6183 or the Mineola Chamber of Commerce at 903-569-2087.

Overseas Shipholding Group Inc. (OSG) pleaded guilty and was sentenced today in federal court in Beaumont, Texas. As part of the sentencing, OSG was ordered to pay an additional $3 million to satisfy the original criminal settlement with the United States, entered on June 20, 2007, that originally involved 33 felony counts, 12 oil tankers and ports located in Beaumont, TX, Boston, MA, Portland, ME, San Francisco, CA, and Wilmington, NC, announced Rebecca A. Gregory, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Texas.

LeTourneau University is hosting a day-long conference from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 on the crises in credit and banking, in light of recent financial institution bail-outs. Keynote speaker Terry Smith, Ph.D., is the president of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas who will share the perspective of the Federal Home Loan Bank on the issue of the current financial crisis.

Other conference speakers will discuss the roots of the current financial crisis, the effects of the crisis on banks in the local East Texas region, the credit impact of the financial market crisis on investors and will provide informed advice for people who are concerned about their retirement accounts, according to LETU economics professor and conference organizer Juan Castro, Ph.D.
