Courtesy of the Wood County Industrial Commission On Wednesday, July 4, look to the southern skies of Wood County for a flying formation of about five Bonanza Airplanes. Around 11:30, weather permitting, five Bonanza airplanes will conduct a celebratory formal formation flyover of Mineola, honoring the 95th Anniversary of Mineola-Wisener Airport and her heritage in Wood County and Texas.The pilots will be rehearsing sometime in the morning over Wood County. “Established in 1917, and operated by the same family since 1926, Mineola-Wisener Field is the oldest privately owned airport open to the public in Texas. Famous aviators who have visited Wisener Field include Wiley Post, 'Slats' Rogers, Tommy Grace, and Fay Lucille Cox. Famous visitors to Wisener Field have included Senators Phil Graham, Kay Bailey Hutcheson and then Senator, later President, Lyndon B. Johnson.” |
