Congressman requests feedback

Last week, the House of Representatives acted to prevent the automatic tax hike that is set to strike hardworking families and small businesses at the end of this year and to lay the groundwork for a fairer, flatter, simpler, and more competitive tax code in the future.  By passing H.R. 8, the House voted to prevent scheduled tax increases by extending current tax rates for one year.  The House also passed H.R. 6169, which will streamline the process for tax reform by eliminating many of the legislative procedural hurdles standing in the way of reform legislation. Unless President Obama and the Senate follow our lead, taxes will go up and jobs, wages, and economic growth will go down.  With unemployment stuck above 8 percent for more than three years, the anemic state of our economy speaks for itself. A new study by Ernst & Young shows that allowing the pending tax hike to happen could result in more than 700,000 job losses throughout the nation during what is already the worst unemployment crisis and slowest recovery since the Great Depression.  Higher taxes on any American are the last thing our economy needs right now. Going forward, we need comprehensive pro-growth tax reform that will ensure that the family budget doesn’t go broke paying for the federal budget; one that ensures that the success of working families depends on how hard they work in their hometowns and not the size of their tax loopholes in Washington, DC. Please click here to let me know your thoughts on our nation’s tax code, and what actions Congress can take to promote job creation.
