A high-speed motorcycle chase that began this morning in Mineola ended just north of the city after racing through Smith and Van Zandt Counties.
“We attempted to pull the suspect over on Kilpatrick for a Suspicious Vehicle and he took off,” said Mineola Police Captain Jack Newman.
32-year-old Michael Paul Koch then allegedly switched motorcycles in Van Zandt County and headed back toward Mineola.
Smith, Van Zandt and Wood County authorities again began to pursue Koch near FM 1253. Koch turned north on to Loop 564 in Mineola and then turned on to CR 2220 where he abandoned his bike and took off on foot.
“I fell in behind him and he abandoned his motorcycle and hit the woods headed toward Highway 69,” said Wood County Constable Ed Shadbolt. “Then he headed back toward the neighborhood and we got to him.”
Koch faces numerous charges in Wood, Smith and Van Zandt Counties.
“The Constable in Smith County is going to charge him with Felony Evading in a Vehicle,” said Van Zandt County Constable Pat Jordan. “Grand Saline currently has felony Evading warrants on him and they are going to obtain a felony Theft warrant on him for stealing a 4-wheeler. We’re looking at him as a suspect in numerous burglaries and thefts.”
Koch was transported to the Smith County jail.
