Van Zandt County authorities have arrested the man believed to be responsible for the vehicle theft and assault of a 97-year-old woman last week near Callendar Lake.
According to the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Department, Investigators received a tip Saturday evening that the vehicle was seen leaving the Enchanted Lakes area. Deputies spotted the vehicle and the suspect fled in a brief pursuit that ended with the suspect exiting the vehicle and running into a heavily wooded area at CR 4908. The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office, along with the assistance of Van Police Department, DPS, Canton Police Department, Constables from Precinct #1 and #4, searched for the suspect for several hours into the night.
The following morning the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a suspicious male sitting on the side of the road at CR 4908. A Van Officer spotted the suspect and the suspect again fled on foot. The Van Officer was able to apprehend the suspect who was identified as 26-year-old David Wayne Taylor of Chandler. Taylor was brought into the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office for Evading Arrest and Detention after being examined by the hospital for injuries sustained while hiding in the wooded area over night. Van Zandt County Investigators were then able to obtain enough evidence to issue a warrant for the Aggravated Robbery of the elderly female.
David Wayne Taylor is currently being held at the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office on charges of Evading and Aggravated Robbery. No bond has been set at this time pending arraignment.
