The Lindale ISD Education Foundation is celebrating two major milestones to begin the start of the new year. The foundation awarded its 100,000th dollar to Lindale ISD classrooms before the conclusion of the district’s fall semester and ended 2012 by raising more than $111,000.

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides grants for innovative projects and programs not funded or under-funded by the Lindale ISD’s operating budget. Grant funds directly benefit LISD students and teachers by providing equipment, software and teaching tools to enhance the academic experience and exceed the day-to-day curriculum. The foundation is supported through donations from individuals, businesses and corporations.

“Our success in 2012 is due to the incredible community support we have received,” LISD Education Foundation Executive Director Maya Bethany said. “We could not continue to grow and sustain the vision we have for the teachers and students of Lindale ISD without the contributions of our donors. We are so very grateful.”

“We are working to build an endowment to ensure our mission continues for generations of Lindale students to come. The contributions in 2012 have greatly helped to push us closer to this goal.”

The Lindale ISD Education Foundation was created in May 2008. Since first providing grants in November 2009, the Foundation has awarded a total of $105,471.16 to LISD classrooms through the Grants for Great Ideas Program. Teachers and instructional aides submit grant applications each spring through this program and funds are awarded based on several factors including innovation. In April 2012, 11 projects received $35,311.36.

An additional, mini-grant cycle was held in December through the contribution of $10,000 from Lindale’s Red Baron Companies. The designated funds were applied to two technology and science related projects in the amount of $9,788.

The Foundation set a 2012 fundraising goal of $110,000 and was able to exceed the goal through contributions during the annual campaign and sponsorships for special events including the annual Academic Excellence Recognition Banquet and RealEdge Real Estate-Lindale Presents Act II: Continuing A Tradition of Excellence.

The top ten graduating seniors of Lindale High School and their most influential educators are recognized each May at the Academic Excellence Recognition Banquet. Act II is an annual benefit concert showcasing fine arts performances by Lindale ISD students of all ages.

“We cannot say thank you enough to the donors, parents and staff of the Lindale ISD for all of their support,” foundation President Wayne Fletcher said. “We commit to being good stewards of your donations and to work to provide additional support to the teachers and students of LISD whenever needed.”
