An East Texas man received two life sentences Friday in an Upshur County Court after being convicted of two counts of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child in Febraury 2012.
According to the Upshur County District Attorney's Office, 27-year-old Johnathan Darden was also assessed two $10,000 fines.
The case was reported to the Gilmer Police Department after Darden took his girlfriend's child, who was under the age of 14 at the time, and did not respond back to the Gilmer residence until the following morning of July 1, 2011. Darden, his girlfriend, and her daughter were living with the defendants mother in Gilmer. When Darden and the girl retunred to the home, Gilmer Police were waiting, because they were contacted by the mother. The defendant was arrested and the girl was interviewed by investigators. Physical evidence determined the girl was sexually assaulted.
The girl later testified against the defendant in court and said she had been previously assaulted by Darden.
