Sheriff’s Report

02/21/13 through 2/27/13

 

February 21

Deputy Stephen Cates was dispatched to a residence on CR 2460 in the Mineola area for a disturbance in progress. A woman stated that she had been assaulted by her son after accusing him of being on drugs. The woman also stated that her son had attempted to prevent her from calling 911. Micah Slade Morgan, 31, of Mineola was arrested for the offense of assault causing bodily injury, family member and transported to jail. Morgan was also charged with interfering with an emergency call.

 

Deputy Donivan South was dispatched to a residence on CR 4529 in the Winnsboro area for an assault. The actor had already left the scene when the deputy arrived and the victim refused EMS help. The female victim stated she had been attacked by her father’s girlfriend while at his home doing laundry. The woman had visible injuries which were photographed and passed to CID for investigation.

 

Lt. Robert Holland met with a complainant at the Sheriff’s Office who stated that his daughter and son-in-law had moved into a house he owns located on CR 2426 in the Mineola area without his permission. Lt. Holland spoke with the daughter who claimed she did have permission from her father to move into the residence but could not provide any proof. The complainant agreed to allow his daughter three days to move out.

 

Deputy Stephen Cates was dispatched to the Quitman ER for a dog bite. A nine year old male child was being treated for non-severe injuries sustained when his mother’s female pit bull attacked him at her residence on FM 182. Deputy Cates went to the residence and made contact with the dog’s owner and advised her that she would need to have the dog quarantined for 10 days. Deputy Cates also noted that the dog appeared very friendly.

 

Other calls on this day include assisting DPS in the Yantis area after a truck drove through a fence; a residential alarm call in the Yantis area; assisting CPS in the Yantis area; three reports of cows out in the Quitman and Yantis areas; a report of a dog causing damage to a man’s home in the Mineola area; a noise disturbance in the Yantis area involving a teenager doing donuts and shooting a rifle and a noise disturbance in the Quitman area involving loud music; a report of a tanker partially blocking the roadway in the Quitman area; a call from a Mineola man who thought someone was in his barn; a report of shots fired in the Hawkins area; two reports of suspicious person in the Mineola and Hawkins area; a theft report from the Mineola area and traffic stop in the Alba area that resulted in the arrest of a man with multiple warrants.

 

February 22

Deputy Austin Cryer took a report of a burglary of a habitation from a woman on CR 2840 in the Mineola area. The woman stated that someone had accessed her home by removing a small outside door where the water heater was located. The water heater, along with multiple pieces of jewelry, was stolen. The case has been forwarded to CID and suspects have been identified.

 

Deputy Josh O’Grady attempted to serve a felony warrant at a residence on FM 1799 in the Mineola area. The subject of the warrant fled out a back window and escaped into the wooded area behind the residence. Multiple law enforcement units scoured the area, unsuccessfully. The man was later taken into custody.

 

Deputy Josh O’Grady was dispatched to CR 3847 in the Hawkins area in reference to a possible theft of copper. A woman had observed a white male cutting copper wire from a pole near her residence. The man left the area running after being startled by the woman. The copper wire taken from the pole was found rolled up on a trail near the power lines. Several items of evidence were recovered at the scene by Investigator Carolyn Tanner. The investigation into this incident will continue.

 

Other calls on this day include a report of an abandoned car in the Quitman area; a child custody issue in the Mineola area; two reports of cows out in the Mineola and Quitman area; one report of cruelty to animals in which the caller stated he had witnessed eight puppies being dumped in the Hawkins area; a disturbance in the Winnsboro area between a man and his niece; two reports of dog problems in the Winnsboro and Alba areas; a report of a car driving erratically in the Quitman area; two separate inquest calls in the Yantis area; a scam report in the Mineola area; a report of suspicious activity in the Quitman area; two juvenile transports; and five welfare checks.

 

February 23

Deputy William Burge was flagged down in the Yantis area by a man who wanted to file an assault report. The man stated that he had been assaulted by a woman at his residence after he brought her there in an effort to keep her off drugs. This case will be worked by CID investigators from this point on.

 

Deputy Burge took a report of a burglary of a building in the Quitman area. The complainant advised that items were missing from his storage unit. Photographs were taken at the scene and provided to investigators.

 

Deputy Josh O’Grady was dispatched to a residence on CR 2275 in the Mineola area for a burglary of a habitation. The complainants, who reside elsewhere, advised they had returned to the residence to find multiple items missing and copper wire stolen from the property as well. Entry was gained through a small window. Photographs were taken inside and outside of the residence and forwarded to CID investigators.

 

Other calls on this day include assisting Quitman PD attempt to locate an assault suspect; a child custody issue in the Hawkins area; three civil calls in the Mineola and Yantis area; two dispute calls in the Mineola area; a prowler call in the Winnsboro area; two reports of shots fired in the Hawkins area; two successful warrants served and three welfare checks.

 

February 24

Deputy Bradley Armendariz was dispatched to a residence on SH 154 in the Yantis area for a burglary of a habitation. The complainant advised that she had arrived at the house to find multiple items missing. She also advised that the house is used as a guest house. Photographs were taken and multiple items of evidence were collected and forwarded to CID for investigation.

 

Deputy Armendariz initiated a traffic stop in the Quitman area that resulted in the arrest of Ted Wayne Morris, Jr., 31, of Quitman for the offense of no driver’s license.

 

Deputy Austin Cryer was dispatched to a trailer home on FM 1799 in the Mineola area for suspicious activity. The complainant advised that a car had been parked at a trailer which should be unoccupied as the owner had passed away. Deputy Cryer made contact with the person at the trailer who advised that she was the previous owner of the trailer and had been told by the current owner that she could have the trailer back if he passed away. The woman was unable to provide any proof of the arrangement and was advised to leave the property until she could produce evidence to support her claim.

 

Deputy Josh O’Grady was dispatched to a theft call on CR 3812 in the Hawkins area. The complainant advised that three game cameras had been stolen from his deer lease and he had been given information about who took them. The man had spoken to the subject who allegedly stole the cameras and gave him the opportunity to return the cameras but he had not done so. The case has been forwarded to CID for further investigation.

 

Other calls on this day include an alarm call in the Winnsboro area; a disturbance called that was referred to Hopkins County; two dog problem calls in the Mineola area; a report of an explosion in the Mineola area in which deputies were able to make contact with a possible suspect; a report of a pasture party in the Mineola area; a prowler call in the Quitman area; a request by a woman to speak to a deputy about her husband’s drug abuse; a report of a suspicious person in the Winnsboro area; a terroristic threat call in the Quitman area and a report of the theft of a gate in the Mineola area.

 

February 25

Deputy David Hitt initiated a traffic stop in the Alba area. Marvin Lee Carr, 56, of Alba was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid, with previous conviction.

 

Deputy Donivan South responded to CR 2805 in the Mineola for a structure fire. The residence was fully involved when the deputy arrived. Deputy South made contact with the homeowner who was already on her way home. Photographs were taken at the scene.

 

Deputy South also took a report of a theft from a location off CR 1125 in the Quitman area. Approximately 20 gallons of diesel fuel was stolen from a piece of equipment at the location. The equipment also suffered damage. Photographs were taken at the scene and forwarded for investigation.

 

Other calls on this day include two business alarms in the Hawkins area; a civil call involving an ex-husband and wife feuding over property; two calls of cows out in the Winnsboro and Quitman areas; a criminal mischief call in the Yantis area; a criminal trespass in the Hawkins area involving a white car on a Union Pacific right-of-way; a call of animal cruelty in the Mineola area; a report of metal pipes in the roadway in the Quitman area; two harassment calls in the Quitman and Mineola area; a prowler call in the Mineola area; two requests to speak to an officer; two sexual assault reports; two reports each of suspicious activity and suspicious person; one report of a suspicious vehicle in the Yantis area and two welfare checks in the Hawkins and Yantis areas.

 

February 26

Deputy David Hitt initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Hawkins area. Brandon Wayde Morrison, 23, of Gladewater, was arrested for the offense of driving while license invalid.

 

Deputy Donivan South was dispatched to a location on FM 564 in the Mineola area to recover some found property. A business owner in the area reported two bicycles abandoned in a ditch. After a cursory examination of the bikes by Mineola PD to make sure they did not match any reported stolen in their jurisdiction, the bikes were removed and taken to the Sheriff’s Office.

 

Deputy Brad Cates was called to Jarvis Christian College in the Hawkins area for an assault. A female had gotten into a verbal altercation with her baby’s father that turned physical when, according to witnesses, the woman struck the man repeatedly until he fell to the ground and then began kicking him. Jarvis security stepped in and detained the woman after she attempted to run the man down with her car. Lavena Lachelle Anderson, 23, of Cedar Hill was arrested for the offense of assault causing bodily injury, family violence, and transported to jail.

 

Other calls on this day include two EMS assists; three alarm calls; a report of starving mustangs in the Mineola area; one report of child abuse in the Mineola area; two reports of cows out in the Alba area; a dispute over medication in the Quitman area; a terroristic threat in the Hawkins area; a theft of hunting dogs in the Alba area and three welfare checks.

 

February 27

Deputy Heath Richardson was dispatched to a disturbance in progress on CR 2195 in the Quitman area. At the scene, the female complainant stated that she and her son had gotten into an argument that resulted in him threatening her with a knife. John David Timothy Larkin , 30, of Quitman was arrested for the offense of assault by threat, family violence and transported to jail.

 

Deputy Richardson was dispatched to a residence on CR 3940 in the Hawkins area for a report of phone harassment. The female complainant advised that she had been receiving inappropriate text messages to her boyfriend’s phone. Deputy Richardson took information about a possible suspect, photographed the messages and the case has been referred to CID.

CID Summary

Sgt. Jacob Richardson closed a case from last year after determining there was no criminal intent when a woman tried to cash checks that she did not realize were fraudulent. A case dealing with the theft of three game cameras was closed after the suspect returned the camera to their rightful owner, who did not wish to pursue further action. A citation for theft was issued to a student at Alba-Golden school after some tools stolen from the Ag department were recovered. Richardson was also able to recover some of the property stolen in middle February from a residence on CR 2220. The property is being held pending release to the owner. A terroristic threat case was closed after the complainant advised that she was back in a relationship with the suspect and wished for the case to be closed.

Sgt. Brian Andrews closed a deadly conduct case after he obtained a felony warrant and the suspect was taken into custody. Nine other cases were closed and 47 cases are being actively investigated.

Sgt. Kyle Henson closed a total of nine cases, including one failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements in which a warrant was obtained and the man taken into custody.

Sgt. Carolyn Tanner closed six cases and was able to obtain three warrants for assault causing bodily injury, family violence; theft, over $50, under $500; and theft of service, over $50, under $500.
