From the Wood County Elections Office

Have you moved? Just turned 18? There’s still time to register for the November elections! Tuesday, September 24 is designated as National Voter Registration Day in the United States.

This is an opportunity for all Wood County residents to register to vote or to change your address of record for voting. It is important for residents to check their registration now so they aren’t surprised at the polls on election day.

The newest changes in voter ID laws are significant. According to their website,, “6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register”. For this reason, National Voter Registration Day is of major importance to all eligible voters in Wood County. Elections are about everyone standing up for the things that matter most to us and our families. Voter registration is a critical step to making sure our voter rolls – and our halls of power – actually reflect the diversity of our communities.

The following locations are open from 2pm to 4pm on Tuesday, the 24th for registration:

Quitman – Quitman Public Library

Mineola – Henry’s House of Java (at Henry Hotel)

Winnsboro – Gilbreath Memorial Library

Hawkins – Allen Memorial Public Library

Yantis – Yantis Community Center

Alba – Alba Community Center
