An investigation is underway in Wood County after a deceased body was found Tuesday in a burned home.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, on November 12, deputies responded to a residence located on FM 2088 in reference to a structure fire and a possible body at the location.
Upon arrival members of the Sheriff’s Office discovered a house which had been totally destroyed by fire. Authorities say only a small portion of the ashes were smoldering and the rest of the house had already cooled.
On the west side of the residence the remains of Roy Dan Stout were discovered. The body, which was partially burnt, was sent to Dallas for an autopsy. The completion of the investigation is pending the results of the autopsy. The residence was located several hundred yards off the roadway in dense woods. The fire was not seen or reported by neighbors or passersby, which led investigators to conclude the fire occurred during darkness. The burnt house and the body were not discovered until approximately 10:10 Tuesday morning by Mr. Stout’s brother, Larry Stout, when he came to check on a possible water leak.
Larry Stout made the call to the Sheriff’s Office at 10:17 a.m.
Additional information will be made available as the investigation progresses.
