The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of conducting a large scale investigation into a drug and theft ring that has been operating in the south eastern part of the county.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Investigators determined that certain suspects were stealing four wheelers and firearms for the purpose of trade for drugs. The “middle man” drug dealer was then exchanging the stolen property for a larger amount of drugs. Wood County Investigators obtained and executed a search warrant Thursday in Panola County near Carthage, yielding a large amount of stolen property including hundreds of firearms, four wheelers, stolen lawn mowers, stolen vehicles, as well as drugs and paraphernalia. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing and arrest warrants will be obtained. The operation will result in the solving of numerous thefts and burglaries in Wood and surrounding counties.
Sheriff Jim Brown extends his appreciation to Panola County Sheriff’s Office, Panola County Constables Office, the DPS Auto Task Force and the US Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms Agency for their assistance in the investigation.
