An arrest has been made in the Saturday shooting at the Mineola Best Western Inn.
According to the Mineola Police Department, an arrest warrant was issued Monday for 18-year-old Shelby Elayne Adams of Mineola. Police say an investigation revealed that Adams picked up a handgun in a room at the Best Western, pointed it at the victim, 27-year-old Amanda Soape, and it went off striking Soape. Adams stated that she believed the gun was a taser. The gun was brought to the room by a man that was visiting the women.
Adams was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Monday and charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a second degree felony. Bond was set at $50,000.
Soape remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
