Elvis Presley Is Getting His Own Postage Stamp

Elvis Presley Stamp

Elvis Presley fans will soon be able to have their snail mail signed, sealed and delivered with a cool postage stamp honoring the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

The U.S. Postal Service has released a preview of their Music Icons: Elvis Presley stamp, which features a black-and-white photo of Presley, which was taken in 1955 by William Speer. A small gold crown — a reference to Presley’s nickname — is in the bottom left corner of the stamp, and his signature is featured on the right side of the stamp.

In keeping with the musical theme, the square stamp pane resembles a vintage record sleeve, complete with a sliver of a record peeking out of the top. The other side of the pane holds 16 stamps, with a text border that touts Presley’s dozens of starring movie roles, three Grammy Awards and 18 No. 1 singles.

In addition to the postage stamp itself, the USPS is partnering with Sony Music’s RCA/Legacy Recordings for an exclusive 18-track CD, Elvis Forever, which will include a new performance of “If I Can Dream.”

Both the album and stamps are available for pre-order through the USPS website and will be available for purchase online and in select post offices on Aug. 12. On that day, a stamp dedication ceremony will take place at Graceland in Memphis, Tenn., at which Presley’s widow Priscilla will join Postmaster General Megan Brennan in dedicating the stamp.

The USPS Music Icon series was launched in 2013 and features well-loved musicians including Lydia Mendoza, Johnny Cash (released in May 2013), Ray CharlesJimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
