Smith County hosted the County & District Clerk’s Association of Texas Region VI meeting .
About 71 people attended the meeting, including 56 county and district clerks from 38 East Texas counties. The clerks learned about Legislative updates and changes expected in their fields.
Smith County Clerk Karen Phillips and Chief Deputy Clerk Dawn Colclasure helped organize the all-day event held at the Holiday Inn in Tyler on Friday, April 7, 2017.
Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran opened the conference by welcoming the group.
“Smith County is honored to host members of the County & District Clerk’s Association from around the region today,” Judge Moran said. “We thank you for all of the hard work you do for the citizens of your counties every day.”
Presentations were made from a representative from the Texas Department of State Health Services, Vital Statistic Unit in Austin who talked about the state’s new software; the Williamson County Clerk, who spoke about a state-created database for online records; and a representative from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. The clerks also held a business meeting and professional networking time, and heard from a local motivational speaker, who talked about personal development.
“It has been my goal to impact each and every clerk in this region,” Mrs. Phillips said. “I would love to have each clerk leave the meeting saying it was the best regional meeting they’ve ever attended! Best location! Best food! Most organized! Most inspiring and the most information received which they’ll be able to share with their offices!”
The County & District Clerk’s Association of Texas Region VI includes 36 counties, from the most northern county, Bowie, to the most southern, Madison County. Smith County also hosted a meeting for the group in 2015.
“Planning a regional meeting of this magnitude has been a huge undertaking,” Mrs. Phillips said, adding that they have been planning it for about six months. “My Chief Deputy, Dawn Colclasure, and I have worked extremely hard to make this meeting the best event possible.”
