An East Texas organization that helps to find permanent homes for children in foster care is in need of more volunteers. East Texas Court Appointed Special Advocates has offices in both Tyler and Longview and serves East Texas counties that include, Upshur, Wood, Van Zandt, and Smith. The non-profit group currently has less than 100 volunteers but is trying to place upward of 400 children. “Most of our volunteers are lay people with no social services or legal experience,” said CASA Executive Director, Deena Shelton. “We train our volunteers completely. We desperately need more volunteers because we don’t have the capacity to serve all of the foster kids in our area and we want to.” To find out how to volunteer visit EastTexasCASA.org. |
