Austin – Today, Texas Secretary of State Nandita Berry reminded voters that early voting for the May 27 Primary Runoff Election begins on Monday, May 19, and runs through, Friday, May 23.

“Statewide there are a number of contests in both the Republican and Democratic primary runoff elections,” said Secretary Berry. “This election is a chance for voters to select party candidates for the November 4 Election.”

The runoff election is for races from the March 4 Primary Election where no candidates secured a majority. The top two finishers from those races will now face each other to represent their party in the November election.

Secretary Berry reminded voters about the rules surrounding primary election runoffs.

“If you voted in a party primary or participated in a convention, you can only vote in that same party’s runoff” said Secretary Berry. “If you did not vote in the March 4 Primary you may still vote and can vote in the runoff election for either party.” said Secretary Berry.

To cast a ballot in person, registered voters need to present one of the following approved forms of photo ID:
•       Texas Driver License – issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS)
•       Texas Personal Identification Card – issued by DPS
•       Texas Concealed Handgun License – issued by DPS
•       United States Military Identification card containing the person’s photograph
•       United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph
•       United States Passport – issued by the U.S. government
•       EIC – issued free by DPS
