Hazmat, DPS, and the Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Department responded this afternoon to an overturned 18-wheeler on FM 1653 north of FM 858.

Authorities say the rig was carrying an alcohol-based substance and began leaking gasoline after the wreck. Hazmat crews used a foam substance to secure the scene.

According to DPS, 37-year-old Calvin Childress was driving the 18-wheeler and was cited for excessive speed.

FM 1653 is expected to be closed between FM 858 and CR 4118 through the remainder of the afternoon.
