|Hensarling to Present Medals to Family of Fallen Soldiers|

U.S. Congressman Jeb Hensarling will present medals to the parents of two East Texas soldiers this week.
The Congressman will be at the Wood County Courthouse on Tuesday, March 18th to present medals to the parents of a fallen solider from Wood County. U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua David Powell was killed in the line of duty on June 4, 2011 while serving in Afghanistan. Sgt. Powell was born and raised in Wood County and was a 2001 graduate of Quitman High School. During his eight years in the Army, he served in Kosovo, Iraq, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Congressman Hensarling will present Sgt. Powell’s parents – Gerald Ray and Brenda Powell of Quitman – 11 medals their son earned for his service, including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. The presentation will be made at 1 pm Tuesday.
Congressman Hensarling will be at the Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial Plaza on Tuesday to present medals to the family of a Van Zandt County Veteran.
Mr. Adam Fotenot was a U.S. Army Wagoneer with Company C of the 114th Infantry and Supply Company during World War I. Mr. Fontenot enlisted in the Army in March 1918 at the age of 24 and served in a number of battles and engagements in France until he was honorably discharged in May of 1919. Mr. Harold J. Tanner – who, along with his brother, was adopted by Mr. Fontenot at the age of 4 from the Corsicana State Home – will accept the World War I Victory Button and the World War I Victory Medal with France Service Clasp from Congressman Hensarling on his father’s behalf. Mr. Harry Fontenot – the Van Zandt County Veterans Services Officer and grandson of Mr. Adam Fontenot – will also be on hand for the presentation. The presentation will be amde at 3 p.m.
