The Okee Tuklo District of the East Texas Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America is currently holding their annual Cub Scout Day Camp, June 9 to June 13 on the campus of The University of Texas at Tyler from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cub Scout Day Camp is open to all registered Cub Scouts in the Okee Tuklo District, which is made up of Smith and Wood Counties, and offers exciting adventures and new friendships to over 150 boys in the 1st through 5th grades.
This year’s Day Camp theme is “Knights of the Roundtable” and features challenging hands-on activities centered on medieval times themed activities and designed to test the limits of the boys’ imaginations. Cub Scouts participate in many activities including bead and leather crafts, hiking, fishing, an obstacle course, BB guns, archery and many. Day Camp will host internationally acclaimed jousters wearing full armor and mounted on horses to entertain the campers on Friday, June 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.Guest speakers, a giant double sling-shot shoot, and a fire truck hose down are also highlights of the campers’ week. Cub Scout advancement is included in Day Camp activities although it’s disguised as part of the fun! The last day of camp will be a Family Day with activities, awards, and a closing ceremony.
Cub Scout Day Camp is produced and run by an all-volunteer staff of trained adult leaders and led by Day Camp Director, Gary Ellard, who also serves Scouting as the Cub Scout Pack 391 Cubmaster, the Okee Tuklo District Training Chair, and is the recipient of the District Award of Merit.
“This is my fifth year to be involved in Day Camp, and I’m excited to host another week of fun and adventure for our Cub Scouts,” said Mr. Ellard. “Day Camp gives Cub Scouts an excellent source of learning, friendships, and competition. But most of all, it gives them the opportunity to have lots of fun!”
The Okee Tuklo Day Camp committee would like to thank The University of Texas at Tyler for once again hosting Day Camp on their beautiful campus.
