On Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 12:00 noon, the landmark two mile bridge will be officially dedicated to "Staff Sgt. Shawn Henry McNabb" in honor of this United States solider whose life was lost in Afghanistan. The four lane bridge runs on Highway 276, east of West Tawakoni. The dedication is to take place in a park on the east end of the bridge in East Tawakoni (weather permitting). There will be dignitaries and speakers honoring this young man and his accomplishments. If it should rain, the dedication will be moved to Greater Vision Church nearby. Watch for the flags that will designate the location. Shawn McNabb, 24, was killed on October 26, 2009 when the helicopter in which he was aboard went down in Afghanistan while on a mission as the 160th Special Operations Air Regiment (SOAR) "Night Stalker" Medic. Shawn attended school in Terrell and joined the Army after graduating.
