On Friday Night we were treated to a heck of a baseball game between the Quitman Bulldogs and the Winona Wildcats. Winona struck first by plating 2 runs in the top of the first inning. Quitman answered back with 4 runs of their own to end the first inning with a 4-2 lead. Quitman extended their lead to 4 runs by the end of the 4th inning as the Bulldogs held an 8-4 lead. Winona struck for 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to tie the game at 8 runs a piece, but Quitman led off the bottom half of the inning with a single by Aiden Corrior and he came around to score the go ahead run to give Quitman a 9-8 lead headed to the 7th inning. In the Top of the 7th inning, Julio Zuniga came in to score on a throwing error and that tied the game at 9 as we headed to the bottom of the 7th. Quitman had a runner on 3rd base with 2 outs and Ty Holland attempted to steal home to win the game. He was thrown out at the plate to end the inning and we headed to extras. In the 8th inning Winona batted around and plated 5 runs, led by a 2 run double by Peyton Snow. The Wildcats held a 14-9 lead after the top of the inning. Quitman wasn’t done fighting though and the Bulldogs sent 11 batters to the plate in the bottom of the 8th. With the score tied at 14 and 2 outs in the inning, Justin Matthews came to the plate with the bases loaded. He was able to draw a walk and bring in the winning run to give Quitman a 15-14 victory over Winona. Julio Zuniga led the way for Winona with 4 hits, 2 rbis, 2 runs scored and 5 stolen bases. For Quitman, it was Mason Reynolds leading the way at the plate with 3 rbis, while reaching base 3 times and scoring 3 runs.
