Grand Saline 6

Lone Oak 5

On Tuesday Night, we were in Grand Saline for the 12-3A baseball matchup between the Grand Saline Indians and the Lone Oak Buffaloes. Grand Saline took an early 2-0 lead in the 1st inning and added 2 more runs in the 2nd inning and led 4-0 after 2 innings of play. Lone Oak made a pitching change in the 2nd inning and Shawn Robertson pitched well for the Buffaloes holding Grand Saline to just 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 10. Lone Oak’s Koy Alvis hit a solo homer over the left field wall in the 4th inning to put the Buffaloes on the board and cut the lead to 4-1. Jase Melton was on the mound for the Indians and didn’t disappoint. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits, walking 4 and striking out 13. The 7th inning is where things got really interesting. Lone Oak was down by 3 runs in the 7th when Nick Bowman and Andrew Hayden reached base on back to back singles. Jase Melton then struck out Jacob Jackson, but reached his pitch count limit and was forced to hand the ball over to Brett Kindle. An rbi double by Shawn Robertson tied the game at 4 runs a piece. Matt Jones gave the Buffaloes a 5-4 lead with a rbi single and we headed to the bottom of the 7th inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Sam Currey reached base on a dropped 3rd strike, then Bryce Holland and Jace Mercer followed up with back to back singles to load up the bases. With 1 out in the inning, Freshman Mason Goff came to the plate with a chance to be a hero, and he delivered with a single that brought in 2 runs to give the Grand Saline Indians a 6-5 walk off victory over the Lone Oak Buffaloes.
