The Rains Lady Cat softball team played in the State Tournament in Austin for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. In 2018, the Lady Cats were in 4A and lost in the State Semifinal to Vernon in 11 innings. In 2019, the Lady Cats were able to knock off Hallettsville to win their first state title. This year, The Lady Cats were back in Austin to defend their title after the pandemic cancelled last years season. Rains faced the Bishop Lady Badgers in the State Semifinal game and it was a pitchers duel. Rains scored in the bottom of the 4th inning on a RBI double by Landry Lewers to take a 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the 7th inning. In the 7th, Bishop loaded up the bases and Alinna Cruz drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the tying run. In the bottom of the inning, Chanlee Oakes came up to bat with a runner on 2nd base and 2 outs. Chanlee delivered a clutch double that brought in the winning run and moved the Lady Cats to the Championship game with a 2-1 victory over Bishop.
Rains faced fellow East Texas team the Diboll Lady Jacks in the title game. After a 6 hour rain delay, the game finally began and the bats came out hot for the Lady Cats. Mia Caison hit a 2 run double in the 1st inning to give Rains an early lead and they never looked back. Chanlee Oakes and Mia Caison had RBI hits in the 2nd inning and after 2 the Lady Cats were leading 5-0. In the 3rd inning, Diboll got on the board with back to back doubles, then a 2 run HR by Skyler Martin cut the lead to 5-3. Rains added runs in the bottom of the 3rd with a RBI groundout by Madi Reid and a RBI single by Zee Hague. Landry Lewers added 2 more in the bottom of the 4th with a double and Chanlee Oakes and Mia Caison again had RBI hits in the 5th to give Rains 11 runs. Mia Caison caught a line drive with the bases loaded in the 7th inning and stepped on 3rd to complete the unassisted double play and win the 2nd straight State Championship for the Rains Lady Cats with an 11-5 victory over Diboll.
