The Mineola Yellowjackets and the Van Vandals competed in a thriller of a game last night! The game was tied at 11 points a piece after the 1st quarter. The Vandals held a 3 point lead at halftime 27-24. The 3rd quarter belonged to the Yellowjackets as they took a 39-35 lead as we headed to the final quarter. Mineola took a 5 point lead with 2 and a half minutes to go. Then, Canon Rust hit a 3 to bring the Vandals within 2. The Vandals tied things up at 44 with under a minute left in the game. With 20 seconds remaining, Hunter Vandover hit a corner 3 to give the Jackets a 3 point advantage. The Vandals attempted a couple of 3 point shots as time expired, but came up short, giving the Yellowjackets a 47-44 victory. TJ Moreland led the way for Mineola with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Dawson Pendergrass and Stephen Ogueri crashed the glass for 7 rebounds a piece. For the Vandals, Canon Rust had 17 points, including 5 3 pointers and 7 rebounds. KD Erskine chipped in with 10 points as well.

The Mineola Lady Jackets and the Lone Oak Lady Buffs girls basketball game came down to the wire. The Lady Jackets led 6-5 after the first quarter and Lone Oak was playing from behind the entire game. At halftime, Mineola was up 19-14. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Mineola had extended their lead to 7 points with a 34-27 lead. Lone Oak owned the 4th Quarter as they outscored Mineola 18-8 in the final frame to win the game 45-42. Maddie Nichol shot 50% from long range as she nailed 7 3 pointers and led the team with 22 points. Avery Haynes also had 11 points for the Lady Buffs. Mineola knocked down 8 3 pointers and out rebounded the Lady Buffs 26-21. Macy Fischer led the Lady Jackets with 11 points.
