The Rains Wildcats and the Mt. Vernon Tigers battled in a non-district contest on Friday Night. The Tigers struck first in the top half of the first inning after Brylon Bolin reached base on an error, and Carson Bolin was able to bring him in with an RBI single. In the bottom of the 1st inning, the Wildcats answered with Eric Bacon, Grant Guidry, Audie McAree and Beau Schellinger all coming across to score, thanks to RBI’s by Beau Schellinger, Cameron Teague, and Zach Sheppard. Rains led after 1 inning 4-1. In the 2nd inning, Rains added another run after Jack Patterson led the inning off with a triple and Eric Bacon doubled to bring him in and give the Wildcats a 5-1 lead after 2 innings complete. In the top of the 3rd inning, the Tigers got a run back after Brylon Bolin led the inning off with a triple and Bolin scored on a groundout by Heston Mitchell. In the bottom of the 3rd inning, Cameron Teague reached on a fielders choice and came around to score to make the score 6-2 in favor of Rains after 3 innings. In the 5th inning, Mt. Vernon trimmed the lead after Carson Bolin and Mason Pope came into score thanks to RBI’s by Carsen Summerlin and Hunter Loyd, and after 5 innings the Rains lead was at 6-4. In the 6th inning, Cooper Cutright hit an RBI single to bring the Tigers within 1 run, but the inning was ended on a wild double play and the Wildcats lead remained at 6-5. In the bottom of the 6th, Nick Bowman reached on an error and came around to score for an insurance run and the Rains Wildcats get the victory over Mt. Vernon by a score of 7-5. Beau Schellinger led the way at the plate for the Wildcats, going 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Nick Bowman began the game on the mound tonight and went 4 and 1/3 innings, giving up 4 runs on just 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 7 as well. Logan Green came in as relief for Bowman and pitched 2 and 2/3 innings while giving up 1 run on 1 hit and struck out 3 while walking 3. For Mt. Vernon, Brylon Bolin led the way going 1-3 at the plate with a walk and 2 runs scored.
